ETH Zurich regularly features in international rankings as one of the best universities in the world. When the rankings are differentiated by specialist area, ETH Zurich is in the first twelve for Science and Engineering in the THE and QS listings.
University rankings are a consequence of the globalisation of tertiary education and provide a useful basis for decision-making. However, they vary greatly in their methods and focus and in how they define specialist areas, and so should be interpreted with caution when assessing the quality of a university.
