Vice President for Research
The Vice President for Research and his staff are committed to foster excellent, free and open research that is based on personal responsibility and transcends boundaries between disciplines and institutions. They promote, support and advise researchers at all career levels on networks, research infrastructures, projects and careers. They contribute to the quality assurance of research at ETH Zurich through evaluations, reporting and policies. They are also committed to ensuring that scientific integrity is practised in the research community.
Responsibilities
The Vice President for Research is responsible for the strategic guidance and promotion, as well as quality assurance in research. The vice president’s authority extends to the internal promotion of research, research funding from third-party sources, and the approval of the relevant contracts. The vice president represents the Executive Board in research policy committees and liaises with the Rector in the periodic evaluation of the academic departments. Research ethics and good scientific practice are also part of the vice president’s remit.
At ETH Zurich, teaching and research are closely interrelated. ETH Zurich promotes fundamental basic research as well as research based on problem-solving. In both areas, ETH Zurich is committed to the highest standards and pursues a long-term strategy of excellence.
