About Sonia Seneviratne
Sonia Seneviratne investigates the interactions between the Earth's surface and the atmosphere in her research. In particular, she analyses processes that lead to extreme climate events such as heat waves and drought.
Seneviratne has worked on several reports of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. For the sixth and most recent Assessment Report from 2021, she led the chapter on extreme events as a coordinating lead author. Seneviratne has received several awards and is one of the most cited researchers in her field.
